"Rosenkelly Architectural Design is a RIBA Chartered Practice providing residential architecture across Blandford Forum and North Dorset. With a particular interest in traditional buildings and context-led design, we work with homeowners looking to extend, renovate or carefully adapt their properties, alongside bespoke new homes and residential development. Every project is personally developed by a Chartered Architect registered with both the RIBA and ARB, with services available from early feasibility and planning through technical design and construction."

Why Use an Architect for Your Blandford Home?

An Architect can bring together the many decisions involved in a residential project, from understanding your brief and exploring design possibilities to planning, technical development and coordination with the wider project team. This gives homeowners a consistent architectural direction as an initial idea develops into something that can actually be built.

At Rosenkelly Architectural Design, every commission is personally led by Benjamin R Kirby RIBA ARB, a registered Architect and RIBA Chartered Architect. Our approach combines architectural design with practical construction knowledge, helping homeowners make informed decisions about their property and investment while providing professional guidance throughout the project.

What Should I Consider When Extending a Home in Blandford?

A successful house extension should begin with how you want your home to work rather than simply how much additional floor area can be created. Understanding where existing spaces fall short can reveal opportunities to improve circulation, bring more daylight into the property or create a stronger relationship between the house and garden.

Practical matters should also be considered early. Planning constraints, neighbouring properties, access, drainage, structural requirements and the position of existing services can all influence what is achievable. Considering these alongside the design from the outset can help create an extension that is both ambitious and realistic.

Why Blandford?

Blandford Forum is one of Dorset's most distinctive historic towns. Following the major fire of 1731, much of the town centre was rebuilt during the Georgian period, creating the architectural character for which Blandford is known today. Its historic core, traditional streets and prominent Georgian buildings sit within a wider North Dorset landscape shaped by the River Stour and surrounding countryside.

Beyond the centre, Blandford has continued to grow with established residential neighbourhoods and newer development adding to the town's range of homes. This combination of architectural heritage, countryside and modern family living makes Blandford an attractive location for homeowners looking to invest in their property.

Can I Alter a Period Property in Blandford?

Yes, but the appropriate approach will depend on the property and any protections that apply to it. Blandford contains numerous historic buildings, and properties may be listed, located within a conservation area or affected by other planning considerations.

Before developing proposals, it is important to establish the status of the building and understand which permissions may be required. Alterations to historic homes can then be designed around the qualities worth retaining, with new interventions carefully detailed to provide the accommodation and performance expected of a modern home. For listed buildings, Listed Building Consent may also be required for works affecting their special architectural or historic interest.
