Why Portland?
Portland is unlike anywhere else in Dorset. Defined by its rugged coastline, world-renowned Portland Stone and strong Island identity, it has developed an architectural character shaped by centuries of craftsmanship, quarrying and maritime heritage. Portland Stone
Few building materials are as closely associated with a place as Portland Stone is with the Island. Quarried for centuries and used in some of Britain's most significant buildings, it has helped define Portland's architectural identity through its strength, durability and timeless appearance.
