Recently, Rosenkelly Architectural Design attended the Weymouth Business Exchange (WEBX) Summer Event, which included a fascinating tour of a local apiary.
Led by Geoff Buckland, the visit offered a behind-the-scenes look at bee habitats, honey production, and the essential role pollinators play in both agriculture and ecological balance. It was unexpectedly inspiring — and deeply relevant to how we think about design.
Bee Bricks & Architecture with Purpose
At Rosenkelly, we regularly encourage the integration of bee bricks and other micro-ecological features in our projects. Whether you’re building a home extension or a new dwelling, small interventions can help support local biodiversity.
Why bee bricks?
They provide nesting space for solitary bees
They’re easy to integrate into external walls or garden structures
They show a commitment to low-impact, thoughtful architecture
Architecture isn’t just for humans — it’s for the ecosystems we live within.
A Broader Responsibility
The apiary visit was a refreshing reminder that every project is part of something larger. At Rosenkelly, we’re committed to:
Minimising ecological disruption during construction
Encouraging passive biodiversity features
Designing with climate, habitat, and context in mind
Whether through native planting strategies or thoughtful siting, we look for small wins that contribute to bigger environmental goals.

Thanks to WEBX & Geoff Buckland
We’d like to extend our thanks to Weymouth Business Exchange for organising such a meaningful event — and to Geoff Buckland for the warm welcome and engaging tour of his apiary.
Connecting with nature, community, and fellow local professionals is what helps shape us not just as a studio, but as part of a living Dorset network.
