Reimagining the Weymouth Peninsula: A Call for input

Updated: Nov 13

What we’re sharing is not a finished proposal. It’s an early vision intended to get people talking.

A site that matters

The Weymouth Peninsula is one of the most significant pieces of land in the town. It sits at the tip of the harbour, beside the Pavilion and along the Jurassic Coast. Its location makes it a rare opportunity to create something that truly reflects the identity of Weymouth, for residents, visitors, and future generations.

This proposal has been created independently by Rosenkelly Architectural Design. It is not sponsored or commissioned by Authority, any developer, or external organisation - it represents our own professional initiative to explore ideas for Weymouth’s future and invite open community input.

From our perspective, this is not just another plot of land. It is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to shape how Weymouth grows, welcomes visitors, and celebrates its identity.

Our approach

We approached this project the same way we approach all design challenges by starting with the site itself.

We looked at:

  • Existing footpaths and connections along the Jurassic Coast

  • The Pavilion as a local landmark

  • Views out toward the sea and back into the town

  • Constraints such as access, parking, and flood considerations

  • Opportunities for green space and flexible public use

From there, we explored how a simple geometry could shape a layout that works with the land rather than against it.

The vision prioritises green space, footfall, and flexibility. It’s designed to add value to Weymouth, not to overdevelop it. The goal is to spark energy, attract tourism, and give the town something distinctive.

The concept

What we’re sharing is not a finished proposal. It’s an early vision intended to get people talking. The idea builds around:

  • Enhancing the Jurassic Coast path experience

  • A distinctive placemaking feature at the end of the peninsula

  • Flexible open space for seasonal use (events, gatherings, markets, car meets)

  • Respecting the Pavilion and existing edges

  • Creating something that can grow and adapt with the town

This project isn’t just about buildings; it’s about how Weymouth feels, functions, and flourishes.

Get involved

We’re inviting local groups, organisations, and residents to share their thoughts. If your group would like to hear more, we’re happy to come and present how we reached this point and discuss options going forward.
